Finalists for the ALCINE 52 award for best short film poster
Few people today doubt that poster art is one more art form among those that make up the universe of a film. From all styles and all periods, from Rodchenko's work for Battleship Potemkin to Drew Struzan's work for Star Wars and Indiana Jones, as well as international masters such as Saul Bass and Spanish masters of yesterday and today such as Vinfer, Jano, Mac, Cruz Novillo, Iván Zulueta, Clara León and Iñaki Villuendas. However, beyond specific claims, it is rare for film poster design professionals to receive the recognition they deserve. Their work does not appear in the categories of the most popular awards and the names of the creators are omitted on most occasions.
If we transfer this to the field of short films, the oblivion is multiplied. Festivals don't usually have their own billboards, so beyond thumbnails on distribution platforms, small reproductions in catalogues or meritorious decorative or promotional attempts in halls and similar spaces. Modestly, and without detracting from all this, at ALCINE we have always tried to do justice to this art form. Either with exhibitions, such as the historical ones dedicated to Josep Renau or the Polish Film Poster, or on this occasion with this Special Mention for the Best Short Film Poster, which will be awarded together with the rest of the festival's prizes, in collaboration with the "Alberto Corazón" Art School.
This exhibition is made up of the ten finalists from among the posters of all the Spanish and European short films in official competition. It is accompanied by fifteen versions of them by the students of the school, who will also be in charge of selecting the winner, in a session mediated by Equipo SOPA.
The artistic direction of ALCINE, Equipo SOPA and the illustrator, teacher and comic author Candela Sierra participated in the selection of the finalists.
