The December long weekend sees the return of the International Feature Film Festival, ALCINE's penultimate stop before The Shortest Day (this year we celebrate it on December 22nd), which brings this 52nd edition of the festival to a close. And we open the exhibition with a major work, Cerrar los ojos, the latest film by Víctor Erice, which has just received 11 Goya nominations. The director of El espíritu de la colmena and El sur, two milestones in our cinematography, once again surprises us with his depth and sensitivity in what could be his last film. Anecdotally, a large part of the film was shot in Alcalá, in the old Sementales barracks.
The other five films are part of the most outstanding cinema of the last year, an opportunity to recover or revisit notable films, such as the latest gem by the Dardenne brothers, Tori and Kokita, Asteroid City, Wes Anderson's latest film, made in Spain (in Chinchón) and which is another step forward in his highly personal career and in his particular thematic and aesthetic universe. Fernando Trueba's latest foray into music and animated film, together with Mariscal, Dispararon al pianista, offers the discovery of a spectacular musician who has mysteriously disappeared. Decision to Leave is another gem, as we are used to from its director, the Korean Park Chan-Wook (Oldboy and The Handmaiden). And finally, another work that looks at the past and in the first person, like Erice's, The Fabelmans, a story in which the King Midas of American cinema, Steven Spielberg, tells us his own story. A must-see.
