The piece aims to build a bridge between the silbo gomero (an ancient whistled language that allows the shepherds of the Canary Islands to communicate across mountains and ravines) and the Yodel or Tyrolean song, a form of song that also has its origins in the cries of the herdsmen of the Alps;
At the end of January 1986, a combination of different meteorological phenomena caused one of the most memorable snowfalls of the second half of the 20th century. In Malla, a tiny farming village in inland Catalonia, the snow was 70 centimetres thick. The exceptional nature of the storm left the people of the village isolated and without electricity, who were locked in the darkness of their homes for seven days and six nights. Nine months later, in one of these houses, I was born.
