The
audience has always played an essential role in the theatre. Creators anxiously await their approval and fear their censure. Their reaction is an essential barometer of the quality of work. The
Alcalá de Henares/ Comunidad de Madrid Film Festival has always given its audience a leading role. And people attending screenings will once again be able to express their opinions at
ALCINE38.
The
National Short Film Competition, the cornerstone of ALCINE, will again include a prize awarded by the general public. The
Audience Award is worth 1,000 euros awarded to the film most appreciated by its audience. Last year the prize was awarded to
‘Traumalogía’, a short film by
Daniel Sánchez Arévalo, which also won the First ‘Ciudad de Alcalá’ Award and the Caja Madrid Awards for Best Artistic Direction and Best Male Performance won by Raúl Arévalo.
The
European Competition of Short Films, an official section being held for the third time this year, also has an Audience Award, in addition to the three ‘ALCINE’ Prizes. Last year this award was won by a Belgian production directed by
Guido Thys entitled
‘Tanghi Argentini’.
The audience of the third official ALCINE section devoted to the feature films of debut directors will also have a decisive role to play.
Open Screen for New Directors will award a single prize decided upon by the audience. Last year the award was given to
Rafa Russo for his film entitled
‘Amor en defensa propia’.
