They say the third time is definitive, when any doubts concerning the identity of a festival, section, record or book are resolved.
ALCINE's European Competition will be three years old in 2009, a short period of time characterized by
steady but vigorous growth.
The Alcalá de Henares Film Festival presented this section for the first time in 2007. On its debut the Rumanian short film '
Lampa cu caciula' won the top award. The second year was won by an Icelandic work '
Rattlesnakes'. The search is now on for the film that will join them on the list of winners, a name that will be chosen from
more than 500 short films that have been presented for participation in the thirty ninth Alcalá festival, more than double the number presented the previous year. This figure clearly shows the interest the section has aroused all across Europe, one of three official ALCINE sections alongside the National Competition and Open Screen for New Directors.
A committee is currently working on the selection of those European short films that will make up part of ALCINE39. Those chosen will enter for
three possible prizes, worth
6,000,
4,000 and
2,000 euros each, and for a fourth prize awarded by the audience.
The thirty ninth ALCINE will be held
from the 6th to the 14th of November 2009. In addition to the usual official and parallel sections, novelties such as the '
Stop by, Shoot film' Kodak film workshop and the 'ShortLatino' short film market, a pioneering initiative in Spain, will be added to its activities this year.
